Johns Island Maybank Corridor Master Plan & Form-Based Code
Charleston, South Carolina
The City of Charleston hired TPUDC as primary consultant to create a Comprehensive Plan and Form-Based Code for the Johns Island District, a seventy-two square mile area just south of the historic core of Charleston. Originally settled as a series of large plantations during the 17th and 18th centuries, much of Johns Island has retained its rural character. More recently however, Johns Island is facing increasing growth pressures in the form of suburban sprawl. TPUDC was cited with the task of preserving Johns Island’s unique rural character while also allowing for economic growth and development opportunities. TPUDC worked with Hall Planning & Engineering as transportation consultant to create the corridor master plan.
