Character-Based Code & Downtown Plan

Mt. Pleasant, Michigan

The City of Mt. Pleasant hired TPUDC to conduct a public planning process to develop a city-wide character-based zoning ordinance and revised zoning map. The major goals of the project are to preserve and enhance the unique character of Mt. Pleasant and to transform specific areas of the City by improving walkability, bikeability, and neighborhood character. The new code provides updated standards for development and redevelopment throughout the city. As part of the process, TPUDC also created visualizations and master plans for specific sites in the downtown area, providing the community with conceptual redevelopment ideas made possible by the character-based code.
