City Center Master Plan & Form-Based Code

South Burlington, Vermont

Though a hub of commercial activity, South Burlington lacks a downtown and a civic center of its own. TPUDC was hired to generate a City Center Master Plan, address the existing high-traffic thoroughfares, and create a set of form-based regulations to implement what has been the focus of 20+ years of planning. The plan strikes a balance of open space protection, authentic city fabric, and carefully thought out greens and plazas that honor the built tradition of Vermont. Civic buildings, community gardens, suburban retrofit, and incubator space for new businesses are incorporated, as well as strategies to address transitions between residential neighborhoods and new development.
